TRANSCENDENCE OF TRADITION THROUGH INNOVATIVE MEANING by Dr. George Panthanmackel

TRANSCENDENCE OF TRADITION THROUGH INNOVATIVE MEANING

Abstract
Meaning and language imply a dynamic phenomenon and we constantly go on modifying language so as to be able to communicate newer (innovative) meanings relevant to the context. Hence, a change in meaning and language changes also tradition. Even the apparently mutilated tradition continues to remain in one form or other, at least in the memories of the succeeding generations. Traditions do not die but hibernate somewhere in the vast interstices of human history and suddenly find a chance to resurface in various forms and ways of life. The old traditions may give way to the new ones while continuing themselves in the new ones in some particular manner. This unbroken continuity and change can be better expressed through the term ‘transcendence.’ In this way, every new tradition with its changed language and meaning is an instance of inclusive transcendence.
