HISTORY: A PHILOSOPHICAL INVESTIGATION by Dr. Thomas Padiyath

HISTORY: A PHILOSOPHICAL INVESTIGATION

Abstract
History is not only of the past, but it is related to innovation and future in two different ways: a study of history enlightens one’s mind to look into history with clarity and history moulds future (as memory is also the memory of future). People differ in their argument with regard to the legitimacy of the subject. This essay suggests that philosophy of history has to be studied independently. The chief problem one encounters here is the objectivity of the subject. Can one write or develop an objective history or can one say that human history is constitutive of the human present? The pertinent question is whether history is teleological? The common adage that ‘history is the story of the victorious’ is true to this day. The essay concludes with a positive note on the future of philosophy of history.
