ROOTEDNESS AND OPENNESS: CHANGING HUES OF MORAL CONSCIOUSNESS by Herald Mathias

ROOTEDNESS AND OPENNESS: CHANGING HUES OF MORAL CONSCIOUSNESS

Abstract
Moral consciousness is an undeniable fact of human experience. However, its evolution and manifestation are closely linked with social realities and institutions of any given period. To understand and find one’s way through the changing scenarios of ethical relativism and intense moral earnestness, philosophical reflections are of paramount importance. As proper direction is lost in personal as well as societal life, the contemporary society is struggling to maintain equilibrium between tradition and innovation. Without being led by the forces of self-interest and corruption, the human society can be brought back to its moral track of integrity only if enlightened people, including moral philosophers, would continue to enlighten the rest of the humanity with the required proper moral principles and values.
