TRADITION-INNOVATION DYNAMICS IN HINDUISM by Dr. John Peter Vallabadoss

TRADITION-INNOVATION DYNAMICS IN HINDUISM

Abstract
Hinduism, a unique religious tradition without strict structures of formulated creed, code, canons, worship, displays its strength of being largely accommodative yet significantly unyielding in fundamentals. Having faced stern philosophical challenges, rigorous social and political pressures, thorough religious criticisms, and scientific and technological challenges, it has survived the test of time. Despite individual views and ideals, the mushrooming of particular traditions and cultures within, Hinduism has built up a unity of spirit. The dynamics of tradition and innovation are operative in the non-centralized but collective and cumulative efforts of Hindu consciousness. The unique spirit in Hinduism, which is ancient yet not antiquated, modern yet not superfluous, adequately flexible and accommodative, vigorous and vibrant all along, continues to sustain itself as both traditional and innovative.
